Kandy Esala Perahera is a special pageant, which is full of 1500 years old tradition, culture and history being completed once in the year in July and August in Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka. It is a grandiose occasion within 10 days-time with great tuskers and elephants. In addition to them, there are traditional fire dancers, whip dancers, and drummers and dancers a multitude of other dance styles in every corner of the Island all marching night after night along the streets and in the eyes of fanatical followers. that isanmost awaited Buddhist festival that honors the Sacred tooth Relic of Lord Buddha written down in the Temple of the tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa). The highlight of the event is the Maligawa Tusker, that isanfantasticallyadorned elephant with an golden replica of the tooth Relic casket.. The elephants are beautifully decorated with jewels and velvet and gracefully ride the street lit with bright lights, faith, and beauty and unity.
